Principal Investigator:
Sayantan Bhattacharya
Dr. Bhattacharya is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University and his master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, where he also gained postdoctoral experience and was later appointed as a Research Scientist before joining UMBC.
PhD Students:
Nadeem Shah
Nadeem Shah is a doctoral student and a researcher in thermal fluid sciences at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). He has served as a maintenance engineer, a Quality Control Inspector, and a Human Resource manager in the aviation industry. He has been working as a Research Assistant since January 2024 on developing an in-vitro Mock Circulatory Loop and optical measurement techniques to visualize the flow field. He aspires to fill the ever-required gap between industry and academia by helping young engineers and researchers.
Emily Kruszon
Emily Kruszon is a PhD student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She earned her Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering at UMBC while being a teaching fellow for the universities fluid mechanics course. She also earned her Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on thermal and fluid sciences at UMBC. She has been a research assistant since 2022 and has worked specifically on surface modified airfoil aerodynamics with low velocities. Now, as a PhD student, she additionally works on flow quantifications on a CDC bioreactor.
